Mount Park Sensor

Get your sensor installed and working in about 10 minutes.

What You Need

  • Mount Park Sensor
  • USB-C power source (any USB port, phone charger, or USB hub)
  • Finder shoe on your telescope mount
  • Phone or computer for initial setup
  • Your observatory WiFi network name and password

Step 1: Mount the Sensor

Slide the Mount Park Sensor into any standard finder shoe on your telescope. The enclosure fits both Vixen and Synta-style dovetails.

Connect the USB-C cable to any 5V power source—a phone charger works fine.

That's it for hardware.

Step 2: Connect to the Sensor's WiFi

On first power-up, the sensor creates its own WiFi network:

Setting Value
Network Name mountsensor-XXXXXXXXXXXX
Password darkdragons
IP Address 192.168.4.1

The XXXXXXXXXXXX is your sensor's serial number (printed on the device).

Using your phone or computer, connect to this network.

Note: Your phone may disconnect automatically and switch back to a network with internet access. If this happens, manually reconnect to the sensor's network and disable auto-switch temporarily.

Step 3: Configure Your Observatory WiFi

  1. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.4.1

  2. Click the WiFi icon in the top-right corner of the page

  3. Click Scan to find available networks

  4. Select your observatory WiFi network and enter the password

  5. The sensor will save the settings and connect to your network

Write down the sensor's serial number before disconnecting—you'll need it to find the sensor on your network.

Step 4: Find the Sensor on Your Network

After the sensor joins your WiFi, access it using mDNS:

http://mountsensor-XXXXXXXXXXXX.local

If mDNS doesn't work on your network, you'll need to find the sensor's IP address through your router's admin page or by using a network scanner app.

Step 5: Set the Safe Park Position

  1. Park your telescope in its safe position (where the roof can move without hitting it)

  2. Open the sensor's web interface

  3. On the Control tab, click SET CURRENT POSITION AS PARKED

Done. The sensor now knows what "parked" looks like.

Step 6: Test It

Move your telescope away from the park position. The web interface should show:

  • Is Safe to Move?No

Return the telescope to the park position. It should change to:

  • Is Safe to Move?Yes

Adjusting Tolerance (Optional)

The default tolerance is ±1°, which is tighter than most setups need. We recommend ±5° for most mounts.

  1. Go to the Settings tab

  2. Adjust Pitch Allowed Error and Roll Allowed Error to your preference

  3. Click Save

Connecting to DragonLAIR

If you have a DragonLAIR controller on the same network:

  1. The DragonLAIR automatically discovers the Mount Park Sensor

  2. Open the DragonLAIR web interface

  3. Go to Settings → scroll to Mount Park Sensors

  4. Toggle the switch to enable your sensor

The roof will not move unless the sensor reports safe.
